I often question myself while using my clothes airer. Why should life be so simple? After years of looking for gadgets and appliances which impressed with their technical advance. Here I am drying laundry on a clothes rack! Not only that, I have taught my children that this is tidier and more economical. Even my eldest, now at university, has questioned for a wall-mounted airer. Her flat is so tiny with limited drying space. Instead of running up large laundry bills she knew what would be simple, practical and economical.

It really came home to me when I checked the energy usage of my tumble dryer. Like many I thought the arrival of the electric tumble dryer was a miracle. Like my mother before me who loved the twin tub washing machine. When the automatic came out she had such difficulty switching. The washing machine manufacturers called them ‘Tub watchers’. Because they loved to handle the clothes to make sure they were properly washed!

When my Mum gave in and we bought her an automatic she would sit and watch it go round for ages.

When the tumble dryer arrived we didn’t realise how it baked our clothes and removed fibres And the bills, my goodness how electricity costs pile up.

Well frankly I could kick myself with all these years of excess.

The clothes airer is such a natural way of drying. It fits perfectly with my day and takes only minutes to fill. Then I simply get on with the rest of my tasks.

The weird thing is it gives me more time to do other things. It simply means there is a long gap between hanging laundry and taking it off the rack.

Instead of a day filled with washing and drying it becomes an overnight wash followed by a day of drying.

Time management the simple way – thanks to my natural drying clothes rack.
