Maintaining Clothes By Using Airers

Wednesday, September 1st, 2010

The cost of clothing today is expensive and not expected to go down any foreseeable time in the future. We all have favorite items that we like to wear and keep looking nice. How many times but have people used an electric dryer and ruined these items? Have you ever felt as if you have to constantly hand wash and hang your clothes about just to keep from ruining them in the dryer? If so then airers are for you.

With the use of clothes airers, or drying racks as they are also know as, you can keep your colours brighter. This is because electric dryers have a tendency to cause colours to fade each time they go through a cycle. Also, by hanging clothes just anywhere you can end up with misshapen articles. This is because damp clothing will take on the shape of anything that they lie upon. This may sound very familiar to many of us. There is nothing more aggravating than putting on a sweater just to find it holding the boxy shape of whatever it had dried upon.

Fading colours are not the only problem that electric dryers present. How about putting on a gorgeous new blouse that you had just washed for the first time and dried it in the dryer to now find that it could possibly fit the cat better than you? While this may be a bit of an exaggeration you probably have had an experience somewhat similar in nature. There should not be a need to have to stretch your clothes out each time you have washed and dried them. Give your clothes a break and buy a clothes airer so that you can bypass the electric dryer altogether and prevent these sorts of problems from happening in the first place.

So, do not let an electric dryer tell you when you need new clothes because of the hurt it inflicts. Airers can save a lot of money just by not needing to replace clothing as often because of dryer hurt. Add this to the money you save on electricity bills and you could afford to replace your clothes as the styles change rather than when they are wearing out.

Soft Clothes And Airers Can Happen

Wednesday, August 4th, 2010

Most people equate clothes dried on a drying rack with a stiff and rough feeling but this doesn’t have to be so. There are ways to have soft clothes without using dryer sheets and an electric dryer. Reckon about it, what did people do in the past to make clothes soft?

Fabric softeners are used to cut down on static cling. Without electric clothes dryers static cling is not an issue. What is an issue is how stiff the clothes could be and just how much ironing you could have to do. Cotton fabrics tend to be the worst for wrinkles and feeling stiff when not ironed before wearing them on.

Clothes are less likely to be wrinkled and stiff when washed and drying racks used if you add a liquid softener to the spin cycle. Fabrics that have some polyester mixed with cotton are less likely to wrinkle or be stiff.  Look at tags when purchasing clothes to see what the percentage of polyester is to cotton and this will help you to determine how much care is required after drying the clothes. If you do have cotton clothes to iron after washing then a steam iron can be fantastic to help get those wrinkles out. Those who can’t use a steam iron should just slightly dampen the clothes just prior to ironing.

Linens are the same as clothes with a mixture of cotton and polyester making up the materials to make them less likely to wrinkle. Other things that can be done to clothing and linens to help prevent stiffness and wrinkling are to shake them out just before placing them on the drying rack. How you hang clothing items can make a difference. For example folding blue jeans over the airer is better than trying to peg them up by the legs.

You can have soft and fresh smelling clothes straight from your airer without using the electric dryer or dryer sheets. There are many types of fabric softeners on the market today including some wonderful natural softeners. By using liquid fabric softeners and following some basic steps your clothes will smell fresh, be soft, and be much less likely to need ironing.

Oh no it isn’t! Oh yes it is! Is the weep heard so often during the panto season: The fantastic debate is what to do to reduce the Carbon Footprint. Some say plant a tree others say share a car. “A journey shared is a fuel cost halved”. Phrases like that try to dominate our thinking and spur us into action.

We feel guilty about putting our foot down to overtake another vehicle. We place on another jersey and turn down the heating.

The laundry cycle is one of the heaviest users of fossil fuels in our home. There are several ways to reduce the impact of it. Help is at hand!

The humble clothes airer has reached centre stage. It will fully replace your tumble dryer as part of a natural drying system. It’s an simple way to hide all the laundry from visitors. It’s ideal for training the family to use as a central drying point in the home. Scrambling to look for laundry items is over. There are only a few options. It’s in the washing machine. It’s on the airier or in the basket awaiting ironing. The clothes airer now has a central role to play in the home.

Central heating is used to heat the home and dry the laundry. Just like car sharing; the electricity bill is also shared.

In our case we use as much non-used space as possible. We place a clothes drying rack at head height and one at waist height below it. The higher rack for shirts and trousers, sheets etc the lower one for everyday items. The higher the items are placed the quicker they dry with rising warm air.Clothes airers have been around for decades. The ancient pulley airer and clothes horse jammed up the kitchen. Now we have choices including wall, floor mounted and washing lines.

Clothes airers have changed our thinking with natural products a central part of our home and our way of living.

What a gift to give – one that helps reduce your carbon footprint – saves energy – is silent – free of running costs – never runs out of energy and every time your friend uses it they benefit and reckon of you!

The clothes airer achieves all of this and more with one added ingredient – style.

Designers are no longer bound by the traditional outside washing line or clothes horse for clothes drying. Clothes airers or drying racks have had a design makeover.

Now we have available a full range of clothes airers. The wall mounted airer leads the way contained in a sleek compact casing. This opens to form arms along which slide hanger rods. Always available to take the daily and weekly wash.

The creation of the wall mounted airer means you can use indoor wall space. Especially that space previously unused. Just a shade higher up the wall. You can use several airers/racks in a row along the wall. Or in a double decker arrangement one above the other separated by one metre or so.

At last you can have a central place to hang those small things. No more scattered bits and bobs drying on every radiator. No more rushing around to sweep them up when unexpected callers arrive. It’s all hung neatly in one spot – that’s style.

Naturally the higher you mount the airer the quicker the clothes dry. Why? As you know hot air rises. Clothes placed as high as possible above a radiator will delight in a long lasting stream of warm air. So clothes placed on the airer in the morning could easily be dry for ironing in the evening. A natural drying cycle. Some would say a slow rhythm but I reckon of it as something I can rely on at all times.

Never mind the weather, power cuts or being left for the weekend. No standby power to remember to switch off and carbon neutral every time you use it.

Every home should have one or better still two! Families will not only come to rely on it they will train their children to be eco friendly by using an airer.

Not only as a drying rack but as a multiway washing line over the bath or a heavy duty aluminium concertina model taking up to 20 kgs.

All done with patience, understanding and never ending reliability. Yes style comes in many versions. It is generally something reached with ease. Exactly how your airer will give you iron dry laundry day after day.

What a gift to give – one that helps reduce your carbon footprint – saves energy – runs silently – incurs no maintenance costs – never runs out and every time your friend uses it they benefit and they reckon of you!

Clothes airers achieve all of this and more with one added ingredient – style.

A full range of clothes airers is available now. The wall mounted airer leads the way contained in a sleek compact case on the wall. The case opens to form arms along which slide hanger rods at the ready to accept the weekly wash.

The arrival of the wall mounted airer means you can now use indoor wall space. Especially previously unused space. Just a shade higher up the wall.

You can use several airers / drying racks in a row along the wall. Or in a double – decker arrangement one above the other separated by a one meter space.

Naturally the higher you mount the airer the quicker the clothes dry. Why?

As you know hot air rises. Clothes placed as high as possible above a radiator will delight in a stream of warm air. So clothes placed on the airer in the morning will easily be dry by evening time. A natural drying cycle.

Every home should have at least one better still several. Families will not only come rely on it but they will train their children to be eco – friendly starting with an airer.

Not only as a drying rack but as a multiway washing line over the bath or as a heavy duty aluminium concertina model taking up to 20kgs in weight.

Yes style comes in many versions. It is generally a quality reached with ease. Your clothes airer will deliver dry laundry day after day after day.

Plato spoke of goodness, truth, beauty and unity as the four ideals. Today beauty is much loved for its ability to inspire us.

Gorgeous models adorn the fashion magazines. They entice us to buy some perfume or cream, which their beauty supports. Gorgeous cars, watches, clothing even golf clubs are made to be desirable. Simply by possessing them implies that we too possess the qualities they exude.

Fifty years ago the clothes airer was made of wood. It was an ungainly item, which stood stubbornly in the middle of a room. Laden with wet clothes it soon filled the room with damp. In dark cold winter days it was the only way families could be supplied with dry clothes. The spin dryer did not exist; far less the energy hungry tumble dryer of today.

Clothes were often draped around the fire on any contraption available. Accidents were common. Then the pulley airer came along hanging from the ceiling in cramp kitchens. The kitchen was impassable during laundry day. The clothes smelled of food, the process was slow. Warm sunny or windy days were favoured Laundry could have ‘a excellent blow’. Everyone knows that clothes dried naturally smelled fresh as the weather!

Gradually the clothes airer evolved but remained largely wooden, overbearing and hardly a beauty. Today modern materials have changed all that. A new airer is available in wall-mounted versions with arms that hold parallel pullout rods. It can be completely retracted when not in use.

Quality Airers are made in recyclable wipe clean polycarbonate or non-rust aluminium in modern designs. Slick and streamlined they add style to clothes drying.

The duck of ancient has turned into a carbon free, energy free, eco friendly swan. It’s your carbon footprint – install an airer, better still install an energy free natural drying system, you won’t regret it!

Clothes Airers – the Slow Life Wins

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

The tyranny of clothes washing and drying which keeps us all trapped in its cycle is about to be defeated by the simple clothes airer.
Washing is automatic these days but drying gives us all a chore, which usually depends on space and the weather. Sunny days mean lots of outdoor drying but in countries where weather is completely unpredictable the clothes airer can be our constant best friend.
The conventional clothes airer is often a simple folded frame, which takes up valuable floor space. In cramped city apartments where space is severely limited clothes drying is often relegated to the launderette.
The wall mounted airer solves the space problem by utilising space that often goes unused. High up on the wall using plastic coat hangers to hang larger items. With its feature of fully retractable plastic coated rods the wall mounted clothes airer can be folded away out of sight until needed.
There are other natural drying airers such as the wall mounted washing line, which is fully retractable and locks into position when extended. The wall mounted airer can be designed to give huge washing line space by running three or four lines across a room. Ideal for over the bath. The washing line airer is a must for growing families especially those living in apartments.
The disabled, those confined to the house and those who don’t like to venture out after dark can benefit. The clothes airer range gives them security without the loss of drying time.
Speaking about time the natural rhythm of drying clothes on a clothes airer takes a longer time and uses the indoor heat already generated. Clothes dry at their own pace, some quicker than others. Those that are quick dryers can be removed when dry freeing up space for more wet laundry to be added.
The slower pace of drying echoes the sort of life we all seek, the natural life without rush or stress. With a clothes airer drying system you can load it up, place the kettle on and take time for yourself – delight in the slow life granted by a clothes airer.

Clothes Airers Hang the Expense

Tuesday, March 9th, 2010

When something new arrives they often say its an thought whose time has come.

The first electronic four function calculator cost more than £1000. On the other hand the first clothes airer was a very simple folding wooden item. Maybe even something made up in the garden workshop.

Clothes airers were a must in the early 1900’s. Coal fires were perilous and wood burning fires very much the standard. The wooden clothes horse stood in front of the fire. A fire hazard if ever there was one.

From the wooden clothes horse came the wooden clothes pulley airer. Mainly in the kitchen it started a revolution on clothes drying. On laundry days the kitchen would turn into a ‘steamie’. A room filled with hot damp air. What fun small children had dodging wet sheets. Of course there is no substitute for drying outside on a washing line.

Many thousands of households have turned to the tumble dryer as the answer to their drying needs. Its just the same as switching an electric fire on full blast! Try looking at the electricity meter or fit a plug in monitor which tells you just how much electricity your appliance is using.

Today with energy costs soaring as much as 40% the cost of using a tumble dryer is very expensive indeed. Its time to say hang the expense. By that I don’t mean we shouldn’t care. What I do mean is fit an airer and hang your laundry on it. You will dry your clothes for free.

Sometimes the frugal money saving thoughts of yesteryear come round again. The clothes airer is one of those. You can fit a complete system – wall mounted – free standing – in the bath and wall to wall indoor washing line. With a complete natural clothes airer drying system you can while away the hours in between with your favourite pastime or sip on you skinny latte as you reckon ‘hang the expense its costing me zero’.
