As an image consultant in the credit crunch, I’ve found hundreds of women who are looking for ways to save money and make items last a small longer.  When we buy clothes and shoes we invest not only a lot of time in their selection but also quite considerable sums of money in their buy.  We want them to look excellent and last for a long period of time.  Ensuring our clothes and accessories are cared for properly and don’t look shoddy is a very vital part of our image.  Even the most expensive items will look tatty if they are not maintained well.

Investing in excellent quality wooden or padded hangers is essential to keeping your clothes looking their best.  Using the cheap wire ones given away with dry cleaning will not support your clothes well and could leave hideous hanger marks which will ruin any outfit.  Blouses and dresses are best hung on padded hangers and skirts and trousers on clipped hangers.  If possible, always zip or do up buttons on clothes to help them keep their shape while not being worn.  Belts and scarves can be stored on special tie hangers rather than being screwed up in drawers.

Every night before you place your clothes away, be disciplined and check if they need mending or are dirty and need laundering.  Also, use a clothes brush to remove dust, stray hairs and fluff – it’s incredible how much collects by the end of the day.

Before being returned to the cupboard, jackets should be left out for at least 24 hours to enable them to breathe.  This also applies to any garments made of natural materials such as silk, wool or linen.  Leather shoes and boots also absorb moisture when they are worn so this needs to evaporate before you wear them again.  Once aired, use shoe trees and store your shoes in clear boxes.  This makes choosing the right shoes for your outfit quicker and simpler.   For unjumbled underwear and tights, drawer dividers are essential.

Any items of clothing that cannot be hung up should always be folded carefully to avoid ironing.  Sweaters, cardigans and t-shirts are best folded to avoid hanger marks and kept on shelves or in drawers.

To make outfits quicker and simpler to choose, try grouping clothes together in type and colour order.   T-shirts, for example are best stored on a shelf according to colour with darker colours at the bottom working up to lighter colours at the top.

Finally, only ever have clothes in your wardrobe that are ready to wear.  Never place anything back that it not up to scratch and that is unwearable due to being creased, dirty or in need of mending.  This will just clutter up your closet and make choosing the perfect outfit very hard.

Stain Removal from Clothes

Sunday, July 11th, 2010

Speaking as a clean freak, as well as a mother, one of the largest chores in every woman, or single man’s life, is our clothing. The most hard aspect of caring for our clothing, which is expensive, can be stain removal from clothes. Wine, chocolate, grass and other things may stain our clothes in such as way that they are rendered virtually unusable and who can afford that?

Making sure its clean and well cared for is vital, and lets face it, clothing is not in the least inexpensive today, so when it gets a stain we’re having distress removing, its not only a pain in the neck, it’s a loss. Stain removal from clothes has been one of those nightmares of motherhood for ages.

Accomplishing the removal of stains from our clothes isn’t always an simple task, depending on what the stain is. The more hard stains to remove are blood, grass and anything which is a protein derivative. Sometimes, soaking the stained clothing in cold water will accomplish the removal if we attend to it quickly after it becomes stained.

In some cases, we can use items such as lemon juice, or vinegar, more acidic natural substances, which are often effective on protein stains such as grass stain and things like blood, which are the most common and the most hard to remove. Chocolate has been removed with vinegar in cold water for me, even when it didn’t seem that it was ever going to come out. A small soak and a slight scrub will quite often remove the chocolate stain, but what about those that won’t come out this way?

In other cases, the removal of the stain from our clothes seems nearly impossible, which is both frustrating and expensive. When you’ve got this type of stain, quite often its necessary to use some kind of pretreatment for your clothing, to rub it lightly and give it time to lift out the stain, which may take an hour or so of soaking with your stain removal product.

Select a stain removal product that is mild enough that it won’t discolor your clothing, and still has the capacity to assure the stain removal from clothes that you require so that all the money you have in your wardrobe isn’t simply washed down the drain.

When you are expecting a new baby, shopping for baby items especially clothes can be really fin and entertaining, especially for first time parents. With a wide selection of baby clothes in the market it is simple to fill in the small one’s closet before he or she is born. As you might expect, sooner or later the baby will do a lot spitting on his or her clothes, making you wince when you see the stains on the nice clothes you bought for him or her. Dread not, following these steps will help you restore the stained baby clothes excellent as new.
Choosing the Right Fabric
Before you pay for that nice outfit, make sure to read the fabric marks. The recommended fabrics are those that use natural fabrics such as cotton as they are naturally breathable. Furthermore, baby clothes made from cotton are simple to care for and have a lasts long when being washed properly. The resiliency of the fabric is a determining factor for removing stains effectively. Cotton responds well to stain removing agents and is often recommended by companies who manufacture stain removing solutions. It is also vital not to over dry the cotton clothes in the dryer as it may easily hurt the fabric. Remove the clothes from the dryer while they are still quite damp and hang them on clothes line to air dry.
Choosing the Right Detergent
When you go to the grocery store, you will notice that there is a wide variety of detergent on the shelves. Get the ones that are specifically made for baby clothes. Unlike adults, babies are most likely to get rashes, especially when we use certain products with harsh formulas. Detergents that are designed for baby clothing are generally free from dyes and perfumes. These special detergents are also a bit costly so it is better to wash other family members clothing separately. One more thing, instead of using a fabric softener, you might consider using a half cup of white vinegar as it is a natural fabric softener and also excellent at removing residual detergent that are left on the clothes.
Choosing the Right Stain Removal Agent
Assuming that you have chosen the right fabric and the right detergent, we can now discuss the right stain removal agent that you could use for the baby’s garments. Before washing the baby’s clothing you need to pre-treat the stains first. Otherwise, there is a huge possibility for the stain to become permanent making it more hard to remove. Milk spit-ups are classified as protein based stains which means, we need to break the fatty acids with the use of surfactants that are usually found in stain remover pre-treat solutions. Let it sit for two to three minutes to let the fatty acids release the protein part of the stain. Afterwards, you may now apply an oxygen-based stain remover to get rid of the protein stain. Let is sit for a couple of minutes as well. Once it is done, you may now wash the clothes as you normally would. After the wash cycle is completed, check the stains if it is still noticeable. If you can still see the stain, repeat the steps from the beginning until it is finally removed. The moment the stain is fully eliminated you may now place the clothes in the dryer.
Follow these steps and you will surely keep the stains under control.

Today, there are many fabrics that can be chosen in clothing for children. Clothing may be either natural or synthetic. When you choose clothing made from natural materials, the clothing will have beneficial qualities that affect the wearer’s level of comfort. For children, clothing made from natural materials is a fantastic choice.
Most clothing that is made from natural fibers or fabrics will have a woven appearance. In addition, wools and other natural woven fibers can be processed to give it a matted appearance. Most synthetic fabrics can be identified by their cut edges. Natural fabrics fray when cut. If a fabric does not fray at its edges when cut or inspected at the seams, it is probably a synthetic or synthetic blend fabric. Synthetic materials are added to natural fibers to make a synthetic blend material.
The difference between natural fibers and fabrics is simple. Natural fibers are the threads that are woven to make a fabric. The weave may be loose or tight. One type of natural fiber may be used to make different styles of fabrics.
For children, the best fiber sources are vegetable and animal based. The different fibers that are used to make vegetable or animal source fabrics include cotton, flax or linen, hemp, jute, ramie, silk, sisal and wool fabric types. Leather, patent leather and suede are made from processed animal skins. Fur products are processed animal skin with the fur still on the skin. Animal based fibers (hairs) are used to make fabrics such as angora, cashmere, wool and mohair.
The different types of fabrics manufactured from natural fibers include broadcloth, jean type material, chino, camoflage, shirting, specialty dress fabrics, knit fabrics, velvet, velveteen, corduroy, satin, brocade and tapestry. Many specialty fabrics with a variety of qualities can be made from natural fabrics.
Natural fabrics can be further categorized as vegan or non-vegan. Vegan consumer choices involve choosing only vegetable based products. If you want to use only vegetable based fabrics, avoid any animal based materials and fibers.
You can also distinguish fabrics as a sustainable fiber such as bamboo, cotton, hemp, lyocell and soy. Sustainable fabrics are made for conscientious consumers who want to avoid using the fabrics that have a fantastic impact on the environment. Sustainable fibers can be produced in abundance without causing too much or small pollution during their growth, harvest and processing.
Natural fabrics will help to regulate the body’s temperature. For instance, the woven quality of the fabric allows heat and moisture to escape when the temperature is hot. That is why cotton and other natural fabrics are preferred for hot weather clothing over synthetic fabrics. Unless synthetic fibers are blended with natural fibers in a woven fabric, synthetic fabrics generally trap heat and moisture next to the body, which is uncomfortable. In cold weather, synthetic fabrics are not as warm as natural fabrics.
Animal based products are generally keep warmth close to the body in cold weather. Wool has the ability to keep a person warm even when it is wet. Natural fabrics have a hardy quality because of the woven, matted or knitted method of manufacture.
For children, clothing made from natural materials are fantastic for the child and can be found in many textures that are soft enough for the most sensitive skin. Natural fibers can keep a child comfortable under different weather conditions and temperatures. Well made natural clothing for children can be fashionable and durable enough to be passed along to the siblings.

If you are doing your best to raise a healthy baby then excellent for you! Babies are life’s most precious gift and should be taken care of accordingly. That is why you should research the advantages of organic cotton for your baby’s clothes instead of the conventional cotton. Read on to learn the major differences between conventional cotton and organic cotton.
Conventional cotton is the one of the most pesticide laden crops in the world. Only coffee surpasses cotton in the amount of pesticides used. Conventional cotton farming involves the use of very heavy spraying of pesticides and herbicides, but it doesn’t stop there. Once the cotton is turned into fabric, chlorine bleach is used to give it a clean white color. Then formaldehyde is applied as a finisher. Here is a scary statistic: Approximately 1/3 of a pound of chemicals is used to grow and produce just one t-shirt. So as you can see, conventional cotton is harmful to the environment and to the people that wear the clothing made from conventional cotton.
The process of growing organic cotton is really different. There are no chemicals used to grow organic cotton. The fields are fertilized naturally and the weeds are removed with hoes, tractors or by hand. Pests are controlled by the use of specific pest eating insects. Organic cotton crops have earned the mark of organic by using soil that has been free of pesticides for three consecutive years. Organic cotton farming will use chili, garlic, tree tea oil and other natural substances in their farming process.
Another fantastic benefit of organic cotton compared to conventional cotton is that organically grown cotton has the ability to “breathe” a lot better. This will allow for moisture to evaporate. Baby clothing or bedding that has been manufactured with conventional cotton fabric will trap moisture next to baby’s skin which can cause a rash. Many babies have sensitive skin so providing them with more breathable clothing is a simple and effective way for parents to minimize skin irritation.
Clothing made from organic cotton will last much longer than clothing made from conventional cotton. The fibers of organic cotton are much stronger and thicker than the conventional cotton. Conventional cotton fibers have been weakened by the chemicals and bleaching process.
Organic cotton baby clothes can be found in various baby boutiques across the country. As the popularity of organic clothing increases, organic baby clothes will become simpler to find. But if you do not have a baby boutique in your area that sells clothes made from organic cotton, do a search online. You will be able to find a ton of places that sell organic baby clothes.
Most parents want the best for their babies. The clothes we choose are part of that. If you are wanting the best for your baby, consider buying baby clothes made from organic cotton. You’ll feel better knowing that you’re not only doing the best for your baby but for the environment as well, all by making this one simple change.
